Guidelines for an interview

Heading in for an interview can be one of the more nerve wracking things that you will do. Maybe you have been out of work for a while and really need the job, or maybe you are simply looking to shift your career and really want the position. No matter why you are interviewing, it is imperative that you have a successful showing. When interviewing in-person, there are more than a few easy guidelines that you can follow to set yourself up for success.

The first thing that you will want to do is dress for success. This doesn’t mean that you have to do something drastic like by a new suit or get Lasik eye surgery, but simply walking in won’t be enough. Be sure that you take your outfit to the dry cleaners before you head to the interview. Be sure to properly groom any facial hair, and style the rest of your hair so you look professional. It shouldn’t be anything out of the ordinary for you to dress for success.

Once you make it into the interview remember to stay calm and confident. Be sure to look everyone in the eyes when speaking. Introduce yourself and shake hands with everyone that you meet. It is always a good idea to have a set of questions that you want to ask to whoever is conducting the interview and ask to meet the manager you will be working under if they haven’t already done that for you.

Finally, take the time to thank them for the opportunity to interview. You can do this with a quick email as soon as you are done with the interview. A simple thank you probably won’t change the minds of the hiring team, but it will be a nice gesture to remember you by if you don’t get the position.

Interviews can be stressful for anyone, even the most seasoned workers. Take a few simple steps to ensure that you are setting yourself up for success. One you are in the interview itself, all of the hard work should be behind you.
